When we are at peace with ourselves we can fight negative events or influences much better. Dealing with negativity with a course of action will help us become stronger, and build a better wall around us so negativity won’t take our structure down. The Mayo Clinic shared how we can manage a stressful life. By practicing ways to silence the negative self-chatter—we can send negativity on its way. “Don’t say anything to yourself that you wouldn’t say to anyone else. Be gentle and encouraging with yourself. If a negative thought enters your mind, evaluate it rationally and respond with affirmations of what is good about you.” Try these six ways to turn the tide of negativity in your life into an advantage.
Watch the people you hang out with as they will rub off on you in a good or bad way. Being around people who feed on each other’s dysfunction is toxic. So consider this when trying to change thoughts and patterns in life. If the company of people is only negative—walk away.
Find an Outlet
Ignoring negative feeling is not helpful either. Use hurt or other negative emotions in a positive way through creativity, or exercise. Choose to be proactive when the wave comes. Be prepared to have an outlet to deal with the stress like using a hobby, or taking a long walk. Then, tackle how you can be a better person or grow from the situation.
Count your blessings on what is good in life. Food, shelter, love, friendship, a warm sweater, or access to clean water can change perspective of what the positives are. If you had a bad conversation with someone, look for ways to remain optimistic during the interaction. Ask what could be learned here? Always be growing.
